First Friday ArtWalk Events 

You'll find a variety of galleries, shops, restaurants, music venues, and places of all kinds celebrating the First Friday ArtWalk in Downtown Knoxville. Here's what's happening on Friday, February 3. [Many of the same venues will have events in March. Visit again before March 3 for details.] In addition to these specific events, you'll find restaurant specials, shops with extended hours, and many locations with complimentary refreshments. You'll also find street performers and great people watching.

So come take a walk and support the arts in our community!

Emporium Center

The Emporium Center is the hub of activity for every First Friday ArtWalk. Start or end your evening here…just don’t skip it! Each month, you’ll find three floors of new exhibits, live music, working artist studios, and more. Opening reception 5-9pm. Admission is free. Complimentary hors d’oeuvres plus chocolate fondue provided by the Melting Pot. Meet the artist and view the artwork. Exhibition hours are Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm.

On Feb 3, the Arts & Culture Alliance is pleased to present its 11th annual National Juried Exhibition featuring works from over 30 artists in the Southeast region. The exhibition encompasses all styles and genres from both emerging and established artists working in a variety of media such as photography, acrylic, pencil, fibers, oil, paper, stoneware, and more. Awards ceremony at 6pm.

You’ll also find the Exhibition of Slovenian Contemporary Illustration showcasing the diversity of styles and approaches used today within the field of contemporary graphic illustration in Slovenia. The over 50 artists on display are alumni of the Independent Biennial and have won multiple national and international awards and grants for their work.

Also on display will be Through My Eyes: Works by Derrick Freeman, an Autistic Artist; and “Travel… Begins Close to Home” by Cheryl Sharp featuring photographs from Cades Cove and the different seasons of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

Art Market Gallery

Recent works by pipe maker Ron Smith and artist Carl Gombert will be on display, along with original art and fine crafts from more than 60 East TN artists.

Smith's freehand pipes, which are hand shaped and each a unique creation, are true forms of functional art. Gombert, a professor at Maryville College since 1993, has exhibited widely and his work is in numerous museum, collegiate, and coproate collections.

An opening reception for the featured artists will begin at 5:30pm on Feb 3 with complimentary refreshments and music performed by Carl Gombert.

The UT Downtown Gallery is pleased to announce Intersections, an exhibition of glass works from Ball State University, on display during the month of February. An opening reception will be held on Feb 3 from 5-9pm. The event is free and open to the public.

It’s FeBREWary First Friday at Pretentious Beer Co featuring local art from Gwyn Pevonka. Her vibrant and loud art looks gorgeous on the brick walls…and you’ll find a poutine bar from OliBea and a collaborative brew from Alliance Brewing Co revealed during the evening. 4-11:45pm.

The Crown & Goose

On Friday Feb 3…and every Friday…step into The Underground at the Crown & Goose and find Frog and Toad’s Dixie Quartet. Show starts at 8pm. Free. It's a mix of dixieland, latin and early jazz that would be right at home in New Orleans. With both a baritone and bass saxophone, even the instruments are art. Tori Mason Shoes

Tori Mason Shoes is pleased to present original music and new art from local artist, Robert Thompson! This is the first time Tori Mason Shoes will feature an artist who is displaying new works while serenading First Friday attendees with original compositions, ragtime and Bach.

An opening reception will be held on Feb 3 from 6-9pm. Complimentary treats from Wild Love Bakehouse will be provided and Robert's art will be featured for the month of February.

Rala will be hosting Amanda Humphreys Pottery on Feb 3, reception from 6-10pm. Amanda is a local ceramicist who will be showcasing a whole new collection inspired by country music stars, honky tonks and vintage clothing. This will be Rala's final First Friday at 323 Union Avenue before moving to 112 Jackson Avenue at the end of February.
