First Friday ArtWalk Events 

You'll find a variety of galleries, shops, restaurants, music venues, and places of all kinds celebrating the First Friday ArtWalk in Downtown Knoxville. Here's what's happening on Friday, May 5. [Many of the same venues will have events in June.] In addition to these specific events, you'll find restaurant specials, shops with extended hours, and many locations with complimentary refreshments. You'll also find street performers and great people watching.

So come take a walk...ride a free trolley...and support the arts in our community!

Emporium Center

The Emporium Center is the hub of activity for every First Friday ArtWalk. Start or end your evening here…just don’t skip it! Each month, you’ll find three floors of new exhibits, live music, working artist studios, and more. Opening reception to meet the artist and view the artwork from 5-9pm with complimentary hors d’oeuvres and live music from 7-9pm. Exhibition hours are Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm. Admission is free.

On May 5, the Arts & Culture Alliance is pleased to present 6 to 96: The Stevens Family, a group show consisting of artists from an extended family with ages ranging from six years old to 96 years old; Luis Velázquez: Retrospective 1937-2016 and Family Continuity, a retrospective of the work of Luis Velazquez; Works by Heather Huebner, a body of work developed by turning abstracted memories and/or thoughts of landscapes into paintings; Stephen Spidell: Iterations of Movement, charcoal and pastel drawings abstract human hair to create close-ups and landscapes; and Julie Fawn Boisseau-Craig: Embodiment – A Search for Serenity.

Art Market Gallery

May 5 at the Art Market Gallery will feature recent works by photographer Dennis Sabo and potter Larry Gabbard, along with original art and fine crafts from more than 60 East TN artists.

Dennis Sabo is an internationally honored photographer specializing in contemporary abstract, stunning landscape, and gorgeous seascape photography.

Larry Gabbard enjoys fast-firing techniques which create a rich variety of textures and colors on bisque clay. 

An opening reception for the featured artists will begin at 5:30pm on May 5 with complimentary refreshments and music performed by Boogertown Gap.

Dogwood Arts and Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts will host an opening reception for the Dogwood Arts DeTour on May 5:30-8pm. Libations and hors devours will be provided.

The UT Downtown Gallery is pleased to present ArtSource 2017 during the month of May.

Every day, Knox County art teachers devote their time and energy to cultivating creativity and critical skills in their students. ArtSource is an exhibition dedicated solely to Knox County art educators and provides these same teachers an opportunity to nourish and showcase their own artistic talents.
