Christmas in the City Brings Holiday Cheer

Date: 12/02/2009

The holiday season kicked off last month with what promises to be best Christmas in the City yet. In addition to the Regal Celebration of Lights, which brightened downtown, the Holidays on Ice rink opened for downtown skaters. December is full of holiday attractions, performances, parades and services stretching from November to New Year’s Eve.

Downtown highlights include:

Knoxville’s Holidays on Ice - the open air ice rink on Market Square will be open every day through January 3rd (except Christmas Day).

WIVK-Fowlers Christmas Parade - 6:30 p.m., Friday, December 4, marches down Gay Street and the Old City in downtown Knoxville featuring marching bands, floats and decorated vehicles.

Some streets will be closed along the parade route, including Gay Street, which will close to traffic beginning at 6 p.m. The parade steps off at 6:15 from Howard Baker, Jr.  Blvd. in front of the Knoxville Civic Auditorium, then takes Church to Gay Street.  The parade will take Gay to Summit Hill and then left on Central to Jackson.  The parade will disband in the parking lot under the James White Parkway.  All intersecting streets along the parade route will be closed to traffic.

Christmas in the City with First Night Knoxville 2010 - 7 p.m., a family-friendly New Year’s Eve celebration on Market Square featuring music, dancing, storytelling, children’s activities and much more. For more information on First Night, visit http://www.firstnightknoxville.com.
