Transit center halfway complete
Date: 11/09/2009With sixty-eight percent of the work complete for The City of Knoxville’s new transit center, KAT is about nine months away from a whole new day for mass transit in Knoxville.
The $29.6 million project located at the east end of the Church Avenue viaduct will serve as the central hub for all KAT routes with the ability to accomodate 20 KAT buses at one time.
The large drive area and passenger platform for the busway are beginning to take shape. At the center of the platform, the escalator and elevator location is visible. The administrative area and Church Avenue entrance are taking shape in steel framing, and the retaining wall is being constructed at the corner of Church Avenue and Hall of Fame Drive that will hold the remainder of the bus platform.
Visit the KAT website at http://www.cityofknoxville.org/kat/web%20pages/Transitctrimages.asp for additional pictures of the construction progress for the transit center or to see artist renderings of the completed transit center.
