Family Weekends

in Downtown Knoxville

  • Family coming to town? Need a place to stay? There are several full-service and boutique hotels in Downtown Knoxville. Close enough to UT campus that they're still a walk away, but far enough away to maintain a little space. And they'll be in the heart of all that's happening with restaurants, coffee shops, shopping, entertainment, and people watching.

  • The Market Square Farmers' Market happens every Wednesday and Saturday from early May through late November, and then there's ice skating and winter's market too. But before the family arrives, check out Upcoming Events. It's difficult to find a weekend anytime of the year where you won't find something going on!

  • Plan brunch! It's always better when someone else is paying.

  • Pick up a locally designed and printed t-shirt, sweatshirt, or tank for everyone in the family at Nothing Too Fancy.

  • Does dad need coffee before he's ready to tackle the day? Send him to one of these unique local coffee shops for some of the best brews in town.

  • Want cool K Town souvenirs? Rala has magnets, postcards, t-shirts, and stickers!

  • How smart can your parents really be? Try the Escape Game Knoxville room challenge and test them out.

  • Spend a Saturday afternoon at The Art Market Gallery and find unique gifts, photographs, hand-made jewelry and more from local artists.

  • For more than 35 years, Pete’s Coffee Restaurant has been the place to start your day! Eggs, omelettes, or pancakes. Burgers, sandwiches, or lunch specials. If you're group is in for a long weekend, give this a try on Friday (they're closed on Saturday and Sunday). It’s a tradition that shouldn’t be missed.

  • Younger siblings in town? Take them for an old-fashioned soda fountain treat at the Phoenix Pharmacy and Fountain on Gay St.

  • Arrive by boat, by car, or a good old-fashioned walk, but plan to catch a sunset and some great BBQ on the outside deck at Calhoun’s with a panoramic view of the Tennessee River.
