Jess Schwarz is a multidisciplinary artist based in Eastern Tennessee. Working across materials and processes, Schwarz’s practice centers on material transformation and systems of communication. In 1945, during a national revival of craft education, Arrowmont launched its signature summer workshop program, welcoming students from across the country to study art and craft on campus. Today, that legacy continues through more than 150 workshops each year, led by nationally and internationally recognized artists, makers, and university faculty. Across a wide range of media, concepts, and techniques, instructors come to Arrowmont to share knowledge, encourage experimentation, and foster creative community. Each summer, the Arrowmont Gallery highlights a select group of workshop instructors, offering Knoxville audiences a glimpse into the talent teaching on campus. The artists featured in this exhibition showcase the diversity of contemporary practices across a variety of mediums.

Julie works primarily in porcelain and glass, incorporating metal and wood as needed to create intricate sculptural installations. In addition to her large-scale work, she produces functional pottery and wearable glass art at Wild Pony Studio in Rockford, Tennessee. Her hot shop glasswork is created at the Jackson County Green Energy Park in Dillsboro, North Carolina where she is now the Project Manager as well.

Jack is a photographer, poet, digital artist and teacher in East Tennessee. He has over 50 years of photography experience. Jack currently teaches “Fine Art Photography” at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, Tennessee. He is also active as a teacher and speaker for art and photography groups throughout Tennessee

The exhibition opens on June 5, 2026, just in time for Knoxville’s Rhinestone Festival, celebrating legendary musician and longtime LGBTQ+ ally Dolly Parton.

Terra Madre: Women in Clay
Terra Madre is a juried group of female clay artists that was founded in 2000 by a handful of like-minded potters in Knoxville. Their mission is to uplift one another in our clay journeys, to inspire a greater appreciation for ceramics in East Tennessee, and to encourage excellence in clay artistry and craftsmanship.

Let’s Get Whimsical! by Larry Cole
Let’s Get Whimsical! is a collection of works from artist Larry Cole’s walk on the playful side. These paintings are comical, sometimes outrageous, and intended to induce a chuckle and a smile. Created when more serious studio work got bogged down, or inspiration wouldn’t come, they are products of the artist’s attempt to break through creative slumps. They are pure amusement and represent faces of characters the artist has encountered over a lifetime of “people watching”.

Cam de L’àmé by Chet Overall
Cam de L’àmé, French for ‘Camera of the Soul’ – is a photo project started by Chet Overall, Fall of 2024. Rooted in conceptual / storytelling photography, the project aims to show the more ‘gritty’ side of society, to show a more street, real life approach to the art of photography.

Beauford Delaney’s luminous paintings and magnetic character bridged the gap between everyday individuals and global icons, joining them in relationships that stretched from Knoxville to Paris. Drawing on Derek Spratley’s thirty years of experience as administrator of the Delaney Estate, Beauford Delaney: Degrees of Separation, revisits the painter’s work and worlds through the lens of these “degrees of separation” to explore the deeply reciprocal influence the artist had on those he encountered throughout his travels across the domestic and international stage. This exhibition features works by Beauford Delaney with additional works by friends and paintings and drawings from the Ewing Gallery Permanent Collection by his brother Joseph Delaney.
