See the Summer Mural | 2026
The Downtown Knoxville mural signals a change in the season, and we're so excited to bring you the latest edition!
Artist Megan Lingerfelt finds inspiration in nature, and this season's features the gorgeous glow of fireflies! ✨
This vibrant piece was inspired by Knoxville Poet Laureate Linda Parsons’ poem All Gone, childhood memories, and the simple magic of chasing fireflies after dark. Their glow illuminates a nighttime scene with rich colors of green, blue, purple, and gold.
All Gone
“Night deepens to a past dream of losing
my footing, no dropped breadcrumbs, moon
above, the path I once counted on, switched off.
All gone, Eleanor says, all gone lightning bugs.
A stray few lantern the lowest branches,
but they’ve had summer’s shindig, neighbors
yelling to keep it down, keep down the mad
howl for love, careless love. All gone pickle jars,
holes punched in the lid, spilling luminescence.
Gone, streetlights’ sizzle counted block to block,
swing-the-statue in my grandmother’s side yard.
Gone, whatever halo anointed those days that spun
or froze me into a semblance of childhood,
secret flax woven for no one’s fairy tale—
or here again, this sudden landing that pulses,
brushes my granddaughter’s hand with gold.”
The 2026 summer mural—part of Dogwood Arts' Art in Public Places Mural Program—is the 27th in the series by Megan.

The seasonal mural serves as a fun photo backdrop for both residents and visitors celebrating the changing seasons. It's located at the south end of Strong Alley, between Market Square and Gay Street (near local-favorite Coffee & Chocolate).
