What To Do in Downtown Knoxville | Spring 2022

Outdoor Around Town

Knoxville's downtown district blooms with festivals, outdoor dining, and markets to make the most of longer days and sunny weather. Here are 10 must-do things this spring in Downtown Knoxville!

1. Festivals, Festivals, Festivals.

It's kinda our thing! Visit Downtown Knoxville for internationally-renowned music festivals, street fairs, brew fests, free music on Market Square, and even Dolly Fest! Yep, it's a real thing (we dress up like Dolly, enjoy coffees inspired by her songs, and celebrate the Queen of East Tennessee). Visit our Events Page for a full lineup of festivals.

2. 1982 World's Fair 40th Anniversary Celebration

Downtown Knoxville is celebrating this milestone with 40 days of all things '80s! We're talking glitter lattes at coffee shops, eighties-themed singo and karaoke at bars, funky clothing at shops, and so much more. It's gonna be a groovy party. The celebration kicks off May 21 along with the 40th Anniversary Celebration in World's Fair Park

3. Outdoor Patios

In our (not-so-humble) opinion, Downtown Knoxville has the best patio scene in the south with 60+ patios and rooftops. Around every corner, you'll find Parisian-style patios, cozy coffee spots, large lawns for fun and games – every type of patio for any time of day. Many are pet-friendly, so your four-legged companion can enjoy the nice weather and people-watching too. Explore!

4. Blooms, Murals, Art & Parks

Better weather means getting outside. Explore Krutch Park's blooming trees, World's Fair Park's 15 acres to play and picnic, Volunteer Landing's Tennessee River views, and new murals in Strong Alley. It just feels like spring around here.

5. Hello, Spring Markets!

Speaking of getting outside, the vibrant Farmers' Market brings fresh produce, plants, and artisan crafts to Market Square every Wednesday and Saturday. And on the second Sunday of every month, the Old City Market hosts creative makers selling handmade seasonal décor, spring-inspired jewelry, and gourmet foods.

6. Chalk Walk

Maybe the most popular festival of the year! Dogwood Arts' Chalk Walk is a street painting festival that turns Knoxville’s downtown sidewalks into a seemingly infinite canvas for the region’s most talented professional and student artists. Happening on April 2.

7. Spring-y Teas, Lattes & Lemonades

Pop in one of Downtown Knoxville's local coffee shops for a perfect springtime drink, like Awaken's rose latte, Old City Java's iced mint matcha, Hello Tea House's cheese foam fruit tea slush, or the French Market's sparkling blackberry lemonade. Every coffee shop and café has something delicious for the season.

8. Springtime Cocktails

Downtown Knoxville's bars, lounges, and cocktail-forward restaurants are mixing up delicious libations for spring. They run the gamut, from fun + flirty to crisp + refreshing. Expect floral gin & tonics, frozen tropical drinks, peach-flavored beverages, and more!

9. New Wardrobe For A New Season

It's beautiful weather to walk the streets of Downtown Knoxville and stop in retailers for clothes, shoes, and accessories. You'll find locally-owned boutiques, artist-owned jewelry stores, custom menswear stores, and more. Business owners are waiting for you!

10. Raise a Glass on a Rooftop

Take advantage of spring forward's long days with a trip to the top of Downtown Knoxville. Sunsets + views from Bernadette's, Five Thirty Lounge, and Radius Rooftop Lounge are breathtaking. Plus, their craft cocktails aren't too bad either. 😍
