With a Walk Score of 84 (February, 2020) you can walk just about anywhere in Downtown Knoxville within 15 minutes (take that, West Knoxville traffic). Most errands can be accomplished on foot, whether it’s a trip to the post office, hairdresser, bank, urgent care, courthouse, or of course, to your favorite local coffee shop. It’s all within walking distance. Not to mention, downtown boasts beautiful, safe streets and lots of friendly neighbors. You'll have the convenience of walking to date night, family night, and planned events and festivals 150+ days each year.
The KAT free trolley is also a great resource. With over 60 pick-up points in and around downtown, you can hop on the trolley to get your groceries at Publix, attend a concert at Thompson-Boling Arena, or catch a ride home from dinner. Rain or shine, it’s also a great option when the weather doesn't suit you. You can identify stops by their color-coded flags and text for arrival times. Wait times typically range from 3-7 minutes, depending on the route. View the free trolley map. Did we mention it’s free?
Bikes & Scooters
You’ll find bike racks at city garages, on sidewalks throughout downtown, on downtown trolleys, and most likely, at your building. If you don’t have a bike, Knoxville offers a bike-share program with a multitude of hubs located throughout downtown. Download the free Pace Bike Share app, available in the App Store or Google Play, to unlock a bike at the touch of a button. You’ll also find scooter-share options to get you where you want to go. A fun way to get around on a beautiful day!
You might decide to move here without a car, or your family might downsize to only one. That’s no problem! When you need a car, you can easily walk to two different rental car options downtown – Hertz and Enterprise – and you’ll be on your way in no time.
