Your Guide to Summer
Hello summer! ☀️ Come Downtown for festivals and outdoor events, and make your own fun with rooftop crawls, summer coffees, splash pads, and more ideas to make the most of the season.
USA Cycling National Championships
Watch pro cyclers zip through the streets of Downtown Knoxville during the 2021 USA Pro Road National Championships June 17-20. It's an incredible experience filled with excitement and best of all, it's free!
The Farmers' Market Returns Home
Every Wednesday and Saturday, enjoy a beautiful day at the Market Square Farmers' Market. Everything at this open-air market is either grown or made locally in the East Tennessee region, including vegetables, fruit, eggs, honey, herbs, meats, and much more. We're thrilled the market is back at the Square beginning July 10, and it's not the only market moving back home. The Old City Market returns to the streets of Jackson Ave the 2nd Sunday of each month.
Instead of the regular pet parade, Mardi Growl is putting on a pawsitively adorable pet show on June 26 at World’s Fair Park! Sign your pet up to compete in one of seven fun categories, like Best Vol Spirit, Best Dawg Pack, and Pet/Owner Look-a-Like. After Mardi Growl, join everyone and their pups at Merchants of Beer for the official after party on the patio. It'll be a barking good time!
Taste Global Flavors
Send your taste buds on a culinary adventure. Let's start across the pond with authentic Irish & Scottish food from Jig & Reel. We're ordering up an appetizer of Scottish eggs to enjoy while we sip whisky from their 1,000-bottle collection. Next, KoPita Vegan and KoPita Meat bring fresh Mediterranean flavors to our backyard with falafel bowls and babaganoush. Then, stroll the shores of Greece with a gourmet dinner of small plates full of color from Kefi. We finish the tour with Kaizen, a restaurant that crafts daily specials of Japanese, Szechuan, and Thai cuisines. Plus so much more!
Put Weekly Date Night on the Calendar

Join Friends for Weekday Game Nights
Jenga on Pour's patio gets more interesting as the evening goes by, and those pay-by-the-ounce sips start to show. Merchants of Beer's patio is a great place to challenge your friends to ping pong and corn hole. Or take the crew to Harrogate's for foosball, darts, and arcade games. Knox Brew Hub knows how to have fun with chess club and video game tournaments. No matter the day of the week, there's something to do!
Get Whisked Away by a Tropical Cocktail
Radius Rooftop's mixologists have concocted your new favorite....indulge in the "Island Dessert" with sweet flavors of chocolate rum, coconut milk, banana liqueur, and berry puree. Next, put the "One-Two-Punch" from The Vault on your list, a bright and exotic cocktail with Brazilian cachaça and pineapple juice. PostModern Spirits has a delish grapefruit slushie, and lastly, the queen of all tropical drinks, Tern Club has a menu full of colorful libations that'll take you to paradise without leaving downtown. Find your cocktail.
Nosh on Cheese Boards & Charcuterie
Meet your friends for happy hour over amazing boards with local jams, meats, and cheeses. Must-trys are from Oliver Royale with roasted and candied nuts, The Vault's "Tennessean" with local honeycomb and chow-chow, Maple Hall's "Memphis Charcuterie" with grilled BBQ sausage and apple cider slaw, Calhoun's on the River's Smoked Sausage and Pimento Cheese Plate, Jig & Reel's "Ploughman's Lunch" with cured meats and local jam, Five Thirty's "Farmer's Board" and Lonesome Dove's "Wild Game Fettine."
Celebrate the 4th all Weekend Long
This year, celebrate the Fourth of July with free live music at World's Fair Park on Friday and Saturday nights, July 2nd-3rd. The City of Knoxville's Celebration of the 4th includes a small fireworks show on Friday at 9:30pm. Performers include the Air National Guard Band of the South's concert, jazz, and rock bands plus the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra.
Plan a Rooftop Hop
Move over pub crawl. Downtown's rooftop scene is so diverse that you have to try them all! Invite your friends to a rooftop hop visiting the four rooftops in Downtown Knoxville: the sophisticated indoor/outdoor bar Five Thirty Lounge, the colorful and magical rooftop bars at Preservation Pub and Bernadette’s Crystal Gardens overlooking historic Market Square, plus the radiant Radius Rooftop Lounge with views for miles.
Sip on Summer Coffees
Downtown baristas have whipped up beverages that’ll keep you cool all summer long. K Brew's new Coconut Cookie Mocha topped with a generous helping of whipped cream hits the spot as you walk down Gay Street. We're also excited to try a refreshing Irish Cream Iced Latte from Awaken Coffee and the infamous Iced Coconut Mocha from Mahalo Coffee Roasters that sends you straight to the beach. And stop in Jacks to try their Summer Special, a Fruity Cereal Milk Latte that’s fun and bright!
Kid A’ Riffic Fun in the Park
Entertain the kids this summer with "Kid A’ Riffic Fun in the Park," an event for children ages 2-10 offering hands on crafts, games, and activities provided by City of Knoxville entities, like the Fire Department, Knox Transit, and more. The fun and free event is every Wednesday June-July from 10am-1pm at a different park each week, including World's Fair Park on June 16 and July 28!
Experience Dazzling Market Square
Come take your pic under Firefly Nights, an enchanting light canopy in the trees of Market Square, now through the end of June! The twinkling lights above are inspired by the synchronous fireflies that visit the Great Smoky Mountains each year. After a photo op, enjoy all the other ways Market Square dazzles thanks to the gorgeous patios, colorful rooftop bars, and all the people. The Square is always alive.
Summer Movie Magic
Travel back in time to watch classic movies just like they were enjoyed in years past. The historic Tennessee Theatre, originally built as a movie palace, will have a lineup of blockbuster hits like Casablanca, Wizard of Oz, The Goonies, and more! You can also purchase popcorn and a cold soda at concessions to round out a wonderful summer night.
Fun in the Sun!
Bring the kids to cool off in the splash pads at World's Fair Park and Gay Street, and then head to Volunteer Landing, where the adults can venture onto the Tennessee River with full moon paddles and hydro-bike rentals from Knoxville Adventure Collective. Once dry, view Dogwood Arts' new Art in Public Places sculpture installation in Krutch Park, as well as the murals in Strong Alley, and the new COVID Memorial Mural in World's Fair Park.
Discover First Fridays
On the first Friday of each month, our streets come alive for a casual evening of experiencing art in all forms. Explore galleries, studios, and artist collectives; roam through shops hosting open houses; enjoy performance art and live music in the streets. The thriving arts community is one of the things we love most about Downtown Knoxville. So come take a walk...ride a free trolley...and experience the community of the neighborhood.
